Dr. Fortunee NYIRANDAMUTSA carries the burden of people living with different and permanent psychological problems along their recovery to embrace resilience and live a normal life if they Beneficiate an assistance by Mental Health Professionals.

As a Rwandan mother to adults and adolescent children, her personal and country’s history and deeply informs her perspective on trauma, resilience, and the challenges of rebuilding lives after violence. Her firsthand experience as a Mental Health Professional gives her unique insights into the long-term effects of Psychological Trauma, both on individuals and society.

In addition to her academic qualifications in trauma psychology and her professional involvement in post-genocide trauma healing, the candidate has spent many years supporting mothers who were raped during the genocide and their children born from this violence. Her work also extends to engaging with individuals who committed acts of rape during the genocide, facilitating restorative justice and reconciliation efforts.

This direct, multifaceted involvement has inspired her to conduct a study regarding “The Mental Health Prognosis among offspring born from rape committed during the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda”, driven by a profound understanding of the psychological, social, and emotional complexities faced by both survivors of genocidal rape and their children.

Her lived experience, combined with her professional work, positions her uniquely to address the sensitive issues of trauma, identity, and social reintegration in post-genocide Rwanda. Her research was not just an academic endeavor, but a deeply personal mission to contribute to the healing of individuals and the society she has lived through, witnessed, and now serves.
